Easter eggs to drop from chopper in OKC

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — Highpointe Church will present it’s third annual “OKC Egg Drop” on April 19.

The free event will begin at 4 p.m. at Highpointe Church, at 6810 N.W. 122nd St., near Rockwell in northwest Oklahoma City.

The OKC Egg Drop, when 30,000 Easter eggs will be dropped from a helicopter onto a grass field located behind the church, is the most exciting version of the traditional Easter egg hunt. After the helicopter has safely left the area, children will then be allowed onto the field to collect the eggs.

The OKC Egg Drop is the largest of its type in the Oklahoma City metro area. This free event also will feature food, drinks, games, giveaways and much more at no charge.

“It’s simply a way for us to give back to our community,” said Highpointe Church Steven Jeffrey, worship and communications director. “We absolutely love this city, the people in it, and what’s more fun that 30,000 easter eggs being dropped from a helicopter? Everybody always has such a great time.”

At last year’s event, the team at Highpointe dropped 15,000 eggs from a helicopter and more than 1,800  people attended.

“We start getting calls about this time of year, asking about our helicopter egg drop,” Jeffrey said. “We actually decided to double the size of the event this year to accommodate the demand we’ve received. That’s a great problem to have.”
