Contractor Duit Construction continues to make progress with the Covell and Kelly widening project, City Manager Larry Stevens reported to the City Council Monday evening.
This project extends on Covell from Mitch Park to Thomas Drive and on Kelly from Danforth to Covell.
“They’re installing driveways on Kelly and are still working on the sub-grades on Covell,” Stevens said. “Those of you who have been in the area can tell, when they complete the concrete sections, then they switch the traffic over to those new sections.”
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is responsible for funding for the $16.1 million project with the city’s share of cost at $3.2 million, Stevens said.
The project is scheduled to be completed in October, Stevens said.
Bryant Bridge replacement under way
The city is in the middle of the utility relocation phase of replacing Bryant Bridge, north of 15th Street, Stevens said. The project has been redesigned to allow for one lane of traffic to be open in each direction.
“AT&T has completed their work,” Stevens said. “We should shortly have ONG, OG&E and Cox beginning their work in the area to relocate their utilities.”
This project remains from the ’96 list of sales tax for capital improvements. An allocation of about $1.6 million will pay for this project.
“We had a bid opening for this project last Thursday,” Stevens said. “We’re reviewing those bids and we’ll have a recommendation for formal contract award in the near future.”
The new bridge is intended to open by the end of December, Stevens said.
Covering to be replaced at Kickingbird Tennis Center
Replacement is ongoing for the covering serving as a roof on several courts at KickingBird Tennis Center, Stevens said.
Leaks followed rips and tears on the roof of the structure which was constructed in 1999. Insulation is being added to help the city save on heating costs. Stevens said the total cost of the project is $221,000, an allocation from the Park Tax Fund.
Stevens said the contractor should complete the project soon.
