EDMOND —
An Edmond elementary student was cited for allegedly assaulting a teacher during a school day, according to a police incident report.
At about 9:10 a.m. Monday Edmond Police Officer Jeff Smith was dispatched to Orvis Risner Elementary, 2801 S. Rankin St., in reference to an assault on a teacher, according to the incident report filed by Smith.
Smith met with a teacher in the principal’s office who said that at about 8:45 a.m. that morning, she was assisting with an assembly in the gym, the report stated. She said she told an unidentified male student to slide down on the bench to make room for other students, the report stated.
She said the student ignored her so she put her hands on his shoulders to make him slide down, the report stated. She said the student stood up and kicked her in the back of the leg, according to the report.
When she turned around to face the student he punched her on the side of her face, the report stated. Before she could get any help from other teachers, the student hit her two more times on her face, the report stated.
The teacher requested to file a juvenile assault complaint against the student, the report stated. The report does not indicate an age of the student or what grade level they are in.
An unidentified person arrived at the school to take custody of the student, the report stated. Smith completed a juvenile citation for assault and battery and served the unidentified person after she signed for the student’s release, according to the report.
The teacher completed a voluntary statement regarding the incident. which was booked into Edmond Police Department property as evidence, the report stated.
Efforts to gain comment from Edmond Public Schools were not successful Wedneday. It is not known if or what disciplinary action was taken against the student.
According to the Edmond Public Schools discipline code for students, disruption of the educational process or operation of the school and/or fighting will result in disciplinary action, which may include in-school placement options or out-of-school suspension.
The district’s harassment, intimidation and bullying policy for students “includes, but is not limited to, threatening behavior, harassment, intimidation, and bullying by students at school and by electronic communication, whether or not such communication originated at school or with school equipment if the communication is specifically directed at students or school personnel and concerns, harassment, intimidation, or bullying at school. Harassment, intimidation, and bullying include, but are not limited to, a gesture or written, verbal, or physical act. Such behavior is specifically prohibited.”

3 miles of Broadway restoration nears completion
Work to restore 3 miles of Broadway from Waterloo to Simpson was near completion Friday, said Mark Sharpton, District 1 county commissioner. Atlas Paving Company began the process of resurfacing the road this week.
“Another improvement on the roadway will be the application of new safety striping,” Sharpton said.
