Single moms — and married moms — occasionally may experience emotions like fear, anxiety and guilt, a local author says.
Based on her own experience of suddenly raising two young children alone and interviews with other single mothers, Edmond resident Pam Kanaly takes readers on a journey in her new book “The Single Mom and Her Rollercoaster Emotions.”
The book discusses the fear, anxiety, guilt and discouragement mothers face when parenting alone. Those circumstances can stem from a myriad of situations — from divorce, death, never married or a father that does not choose to parent. The book is available on most national book seller sites and in bookstores.
By learning through God’s word how to calm the runaway emotions of fear of the unknown, anger, bitterness, loneliness, guilt and more, readers will embrace God’s peace and overcome disheartening unsettled feelings, Kanaly said.
Kanaly, who gives credit for her successes in life to God, said it’s time for single mothers to traipse the uphill track of discovering how to ensure spiritual stamina and emotional well-being. Kanaly said God has given them authority and power to rule over their wounded emotions.
“It is possible to learn to manage your emotions so they don’t manage you,” Kanaly said.
Published by Pelican Publishing, “The Single Mom and Her Rollercoaster Emotions” is endorsed by Focus on the Family, Debbie Stuart of Women of Faith, Ed Young, Linda Ranson Jacobs and other national Christian leaders, Kanaly said.
“This book ministers deeply to the pressing needs of single mothers. It’s a must read!” Herbert Cooper, senior pastor, People’s Church, Oklahoma City, wrote in endorsing the book.
Ed Young, senior pastor, Second Baptist Houston, Houston, Texas, stated: “Pam Kanaly gets down in the trenches with her readers. It’s written in raw first-hand experience. She delivers a tale of hope.”
Kanaly and Shelley Pulliam are co-founders of Arise Ministries, a nonprofit women’s organization headquartered in Edmond. The ministry seeks to encourage all women in discovering their value to God, reaching out through conference speaking, writing, interviewing on radio and television.
Kanaly said the 10th annual Arise Ministries Survive ‘n’ Thrive Conference, which will be June 20-21 at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City, is a celebration of the numerous partners and supporters throughout year after year.
Praise and worship will be led by singer songwriter Jami Smith, who received her degree in music education from Oklahoma Baptist University. Kanaly and Pulliam will be keynote speakers.
The event also will feature a host of breakout speakers with relevant messages and topics for single moms.
