Police pursuit ends in Edmond; 2 arrested

EDMOND — Two suspects were arrested after they fled from Jones police Thursday morning and bailed out of a car in Edmond along Memorial Road near I-35.

Mark Myers, spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, said at about 9 a.m. the department was contacted by a woman who claimed that her granddaughter had just left the house and the grandmother believed her granddaughter was possibly wanted on a warrant out of Missouri.

A Jones Police officer was told the granddaughter was at a convenience store, at 305 E. Main St., with her boyfriend, Myers said.

When the Jones officer arrived, he saw the granddaughter and her boyfriend in a maroon Chevrolet Lumina, and when he approached them they drove off in the car, Myers said. The Jones officer ran the license plate, and found that the car was stolen out of Missouri, he said.

Jones Police Chief Thomas Pletcher said during the pursuit, which reached speeds of 90-100 mph, the suspects threw a syringe, spoons and a glass dinner plate — drug paraphernalia — out of their car. The plate hit a Jones police car, breaking the windshield, Pletcher said.

Myers said a Spencer police officer then took over the pursuit, but the suspects were initially able to elude police.

Moments later, an Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputy spotted the car on Memorial Road near I-35, Myers said. The car fled again, but stopped after blowing a tire when it hit a center median.

The suspects were seen getting out of the car, with the man assisting the woman by carrying her, Myers said. They ran into a wooded area, then crossed I-35 to the east, and hid in another wooded area.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Edmond Police Department, assisted in setting up a perimeter, and Oklahoma City Police brought in their  helicopter to assist, Myers said. At about 10:30 a.m., the search was scaled down, he said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the suspects were spotted and taken into custody.

Damyon Fisher, 29, was arrested and deputies discovered that he had active warrants out of Missouri for a parole violation, a stolen vehicle and for fleeing the state of Missouri, Myers said.

Haley Brewer, 33, also was arrested. She did not have any prior warrants, Myers said. No home towns were immediately available.

Myers confirmed that drug paraphernalia and a substance believed to be methamphetamine were recovered during the incident. The suspects will be booked on complaints of attempting to elude, assault with a dangerous weapon on an officer and possession of drugs, Myers said.
