EDMOND — Oklahoma County’s courthouse suffered an electrical outage — reported at about 2 a.m. — and the building is scheduled to re-open at 1:30 p.m. today.

Rick Buchanan, chief deputy for District 3, said construction crews renovating the heating and air-conditioning system, along with installing a fire suppression system in the courthouse, reported a major electrical malfunction this morning about 2 a.m.

OG&E crews have been on the scene throughout the night and believe electricity will be restored to the courthouse building some time this morning, Buchanan said. Then they have to run a series of tests before the building can be opened for the judges and the public, he said.

The outage has only affected the Oklahoma County courthouse building in downtown Oklahoma City. All other county-owned buildings are unaffected.

Anyone who has court scheduled this morning should come to the courthouse building at 1:30 p.m., Buchanan said. All other Oklahoma County buildings will open at the normal time, including the Juvenile Court Center.
