EDMOND — The Edmond Board of Education has named Justin Coffelt the new principal of Memorial High School.

The leadership position at Memorial opened when Debbie Bendick accepted a promotion to executive director of Secondary Education last month.

“Debbie has done an outstanding job at Memorial the last four years,” said Superintendent David Goin. “We look forward to working closely with Justin to build on that foundation of success to advance student learning and achievement at Memorial.”

Coffelt has been employed as a teacher, coach and assistant principal in Edmond Public Schools since 2001.

As an alum of Edmond Memorial High School, Coffelt has many fond memories of his high school days which he reflects on almost daily.

“Edmond High School or Edmond Memorial High School, depending on the year you graduated, evokes wonderful memories for all who have ever attended or worked at the school,” he said.

His wife, Errin, is a teacher at Cimarron Middle School and their daughter, Aiden, will be a fourth-grader at Cross Timbers Elementary School in the fall of 2013.

Coffelt has a master’s degree in school administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Coffelt will begin serving in his new role immediately.

In other business, Michelle Pontikos was appointed by the Board of Education as assistant principal at North High School and James Keeton will be filling the dual role of assistant principal at Summit and Sequoyah middle schools.
