EDMOND —
A member of the Army National Guard is suspected of committing fraudulent acts in Logan County, and there may be additional victims in Edmond and Oklahoma City, officials said.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Department reports that the soldier was allegedly going door to door in his military uniform asking for donations for wounded soldiers as well as money for soldier care packages, said Lt. Col. Max Moss, an Oklahoma National Guard spokesman.
On Jan. 15, the Logan County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of obtaining money or property by false pretenses against Pfc. Nicholas Heskett, 20, Moss said. He has not been taken into custody on the charges, Moss said.
The suspect is a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard but has been absent without leave for several months, Moss said. According to civilian law enforcement authorities he wore his camouflage uniform complete with military patches to entice multiple individuals to give him cash, Moss said.
On Thursday, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office advised the Oklahoma National Guard about the possible criminal activity involving the soldier, Moss said. The National Guard does not send soldiers or airmen door to door seeking donations, Moss said.
“If someone shows up at your door in a military uniform asking for money, you should advise law enforcement as soon as possible,” he said.
The alleged crimes took place in Crescent and southern Logan County, and may also have occurred in Edmond and Oklahoma City, Moss said.
Jenny Monroe, spokeswoman for the Edmond Police Department, said the agency has not received any reports like this in its jurisdiction.
“That could change when the information is out to the public that these were not legitimate solicitations,” she said.

The Edmond Sun is serving as a drop-off location for the downtown Edmond area for the American Red Cross. Supplies only may be dropped off at 123 S. Broadway and residents may use the back door to enter the building. Parking is available behind the building at the Festival Market Place. Donations may be taken to Café Evoke, 103 S. Broadway, from 5-10 p.m. -

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office today began releasing names of those who perished in Monday’s 17-mile long EF-5 tornado in Moore and Oklahoma City.
As of this morning the official death toll remains at 24. Of those dead are 10 children. -
