Keller Williams brings RED Day event to Edmond

Homes, charities benefit from volunteer effort

EDMOND — A historic Edmond home will get a facelift, and a trio of other Edmond-area causes will receive support this week as part of an International Day of Service set for today.

Volunteers will team up today to provide free yard work, painting and repairs at the home of Bertha Van Wye in the 515 N. Jackson.

The home makeover is part of Keller Williams Realty’s annual RED Day event. RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, was established by Keller Williams in 2009 as an international day of service. Each year, Realtors from across the globe band together to help neighbors and improve local communities. Last year, more than 40,000 Keller Williams associates participated in RED Day, donating more than 190,000 hours of community service.

Keller Williams Managing Broker Susan Miller and Realtors Mariana Lloyd, Gina Setticerze, Kim Spencer and Steve Reeser; as well as Keller Williams Technology Manager Lisa Morrison, are leading Edmond’s RED Day efforts.

“This event is an important part of the Keller Williams culture, and the results are always a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together for the greater good,” Lloyd said. “I am proud to bring RED day to Edmond.”

RED day volunteers will work at the Van Wye house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Refreshments and hot dogs will be provided to volunteers. Individuals who wish to volunteer for RED day can call 285-7000 or send an email to marianavlloyd@aol.com.

Edmond’s RED day team also will support a trio of other projects on Thursday including:

• The group will make repairs at the home of longtime Edmond resident Bart Rodr. Rodr is currently awaiting a heart transplant after suffering a heart attack in 2009 at just 36 years of age.

• The group will sponsor a carnival, complete with a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting and games at Special Cares an organization at 12201 N. Western dedicated to helping children with special needs.

• The Edmond VFW also will receive a facelift, including a fresh coat of paint.

“Our work would not be possible without the community support we have received,” Lloyd said. “We are grateful to the many businesses and individuals who have stepped up to support this project.”

The project is being sponsored by Keller Williams Edmond. Other businesses contributing to Edmond’s RED day effort are Oklahoma City Abstract, Coppermark Bank, Strike 3 Termite; Dennis Chaumont, State Farm Insurance; Donna Roukat, Flat Creek Consulting; Larry Kernell Construction; Gerardo Martinez Landscaping; Sherwin Williams; Forest Lumber; Jim Faaborg, Bank of Commerce; Rainguard; Price Lang Consulting; Ed Fitch, Foundation Homes; A-1 Freeman Moving and Storage and Phoenix Restoration Disaster Services.
