EDMOND — Lisa Nguyen can thank the Oklahoma Lottery for making her Edmond’s newest millionaire.

Nguyen claimed the $1 million winning Mega Millions ticket from last Friday night’s drawing, said Katy Smith, Oklahoma Lottery spokesperson. The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K at 2216 W. Edmond Road.

Mega Millions is a multi-state online game, Smith said.

Nguyen selected the winning numbers using the Easy Pick method and successfully matched five of five white balls for a $250,000 prize. She added the Megaplier option for an extra dollar to increase her prize to $1 million.

“This will be the 34th $1 million prize or larger we’ve awarded,” Smith said of the Powerball jackpot winners and five Hot Lotto jackpot winners.

After taxes, Nguyen received a check for $710,000. Nguyen plans to save the winnings for her children’s education and future needs, the Oklahoma Lottery reported.

Net proceeds of all  state lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $558 million has been contributed to education since 2005 with funds appropriated by the state Legislature to pay debt service on a higher education capital bond issue; to pay support salaries for public schools and for equipment, scholarships and other purposes at career and technology education institutions.
