EDMOND — Calvey to speak at Kiwanis meeting
Kevin Calvey, local businessman, Army National Guard captain and candidate for Oklahoma’s U. S. Congressional 5th District, will be the guest speaker at the Edmond Kiwanis Club meeting on Wednesday.
Besides commenting on his tour in Iraq and his Irish heritage, Calvey will talk about his campaign and election timelines.
Calvey was state representative from District 94 in Del City from 1998 through 2006 and is a member of the downtown Oklahoma City Rotary Club, Leadership Oklahoma and Leadership Oklahoma City.
At age 37, Calvey was commissioned in the Army National Guard and served in Iraq during the troop surge in 2007. He and his wife Toni live in northwest Oklahoma City with their baby daughter Anastasia.
Citizens are welcome to attend the Edmond Kiwanis meeting which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Room just left of the main cafeteria in the UCO Nigh University Center. For more information, call Club Secretary Don Sterne at 216-8436.
Irish dancing and music to entertain Edmond seniors
Irish eyes will be smiling and not-so-Irish eyes too as the McTeggart Irish Dancers of Oklahoma perform at Grace Living Center — Edmond at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The local dancers, ranging in age from 4-21, are trained in Irish stepdance in both soft and hard shoe styles. Both girls and boys are part of the troupe, which dresses in traditional Irish costumes. After their performance, they mingle with the seniors at the home, getting lots of hugs and appreciation.
The public is welcome to attend.

Rolling paper, scales lead to marijuana bust
Rolling paper, a cigar blunt wrap, digital scales and hydrocodone led to the seizure of 110 grams of marijuana from an Edmond home, police said.
An anonymous tip about illegal drug usage led police on Aug. 28 to an apartment at 1300 E. Ayers, according to a report filed by Edmond Police Officer Joshua Pratt. -
A&E show to shine light on hoarding in Oklahoma
One Edmond family will be the focus of a television program shedding light on an increasingly common problem.
Behind closed doors, many Oklahomans struggle with a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder known as “hoarding,” which is marked by a need to acquire and keep things, even if the items are worthless, hazardous or unsanitary. -
