Special to The Sun
The Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation is accepting nominations through June 1 for inductees into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame. Oklahoma veterans including Medal of Honor recipients have been being honored by the hall of fame since 1999.
A banquet and ceremony honoring those selected this year for the hall of fame will be held Nov. 9 at the Jim Thorpe Museum, 4040 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City.
Selection is based on a combination of exemplary military service and community contributions.
Ten veterans will be honored this year. They will include two Medal of Honor recipients and a veteran selected for the Major General Douglas O. Dollar Distinguished Service Award. A native Oklahoman, Dollar served in Vietnam and later was in the 95th Division. Nominees can be living or deceased. Also military rank of nominees has no bearing on selections. Past honorees have come from all ranks — enlisted and officer.
Nominees may also include one who played a major role in one of the military installations in Oklahoma, not one who simply passes through one of the installations during a military career.
Nomination forms can be obtained by writing to the Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation, P.O Box 30658, Edmond, OK, 73003; or on the foundation’s web site at OKMHF.org. For more information, call 202-8012.
