An armed man wearing a black bandana over his face walked into an Edmond Taco Mayo and walked out with $150 in cash, a witness told officers.
At 9:32 p.m. Sunday, Edmond Police Officer William Wright responded to an armed robbery in progress call from the Taco Mayo at 2000 S. Broadway, according to a report filed by Wright.
Wright spoke with the reporting party who said the incident involved a black male wearing khaki pants, a black jacket, a black bandana over his face and a black stocking cap, he stated in the report. Wright radioed the units on scene and gave them the description of the suspect and his last known direction of travel, the report stated.
The reporting party said she was in the back of the restaurant when she heard the front door open, Wright stated. A witness said she heard the bathroom door open and about 5 minutes later a black male with a gun and a can of mace came into the back of the restaurant demanding money, the report stated.
The reporting party said the male attempted to spray her with mace, but she was not hit; the officer was not able to smell any mace or pepper spray while on scene, Wright stated.
When the male told her to open the safe the reporting party said she could not open it, Wright stated. She said the suspect took the money from the registers, ran to the front door, looked to see if anyone was around and ran east through the parking lot, the report stated.
After the suspect was gone, the reporting party pressed the store’s panic button and called 911, Wright stated.
Responding units searched but did not find the suspect, Wright stated. Officer Neil Martin and his K-9 partner searched the area to a trash bin located east of the Taco Mayo parking lot, but lost contact, the report stated.
Spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said the Edmond Police Department continues to investigate the incident and continues to search for the suspect.
After the incident, a witness said she noticed her $350 cell phone was missing, Wright stated. AT&T could not track her phone since she did not have a family plan, which includes the tracking program, the report stated.
