Spring has sprung and members of the University of Central Oklahoma community are keeping fit at the Wellness Center.
To promote fitness and wellness in the workplace, encourage teamwork and build positive camaraderie, university administrators and the Wellness Center work with departments to design a fitness program that fits staff schedules and needs.
Shea McMullin, UCO health and fitness specialist, said departments currently involved in the university’s employee wellness program give their employees two one hour, predetermined workout times per week.
During this time, employees attending a group fitness class workout in the Wellness Center and participate in wellness activities or events, McMullin said. To add some fun and excitement, employees can add their own department touch such as dividing the participating employees into teams.
Tuesday afternoon, McMullin was leading a class of staff members through a 45-minute full-body TRX circuit program. It included disciplines such as working out with battle ropes, overhead lunges, tire flips and suspended straps.
Brad Griffith, an academic advisor in UCO’s College of Business, said he is part of a class that participates Tuesdays and Thursdays. Griffith said the fact that the university gives employees time on the clock to keep fit is a tremendous plus.
