Pot pipe in child’s diaper leads to couple’s arrest

EDMOND — Two Guthrie residents were arrested after a child arrived at a Head Start program with a marijuana pipe in the child’s diaper, police said.

On Friday, Logan County District Attorney Tom Lee filed charges against Guthrie residents Jessica Christy Renaker, 28, and Jesse Ray Renaker, 32, according to court records.

After the Oklahoma Department of Human Services called the Logan County Sheriff’s Office about the incident at the Head Start program, deputies went to the Renaker’s home where they found trash strewn about rooms, the handgun, ammunition and marijuana, police said.

Jessica Renaker and Jesse Renaker were charged with felony child neglect for allegedly keeping marijuana, a loaded .380-caliber handgun and four drug pipes within reach of their older child; they face a duplicate charge for their younger child. If they are convicted each child neglect charge could bring up to life in prison or a fine of $500-$5,000.

The pair face a felony charge for improperly maintaining a house in Guthrie at 6801 S. Academy Road where prosecutors allege marijuana was stored and used. If they are convicted on the charge they face up to five years in jail and/or a fine up to $10,000 and costs.

The pair face a possession of a firearm during commission of a felony charge for allegedly possessing a loaded .380-caliber handgun during the commission of the crime of child neglect and improperly maintaining a home. If they are convicted on the charge they face 2-10 years in prison.

The pair face a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge. If they are convicted on the charge they face up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

The pair also face a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge for possessing four drug pipes, two packages of rolling papers and a silver marijuana grinder used by abusers of controlled dangerous substances without having any medical or other lawful need requiring possession. If they are convicted on the charge they face up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services took both children into custody.
