EDMOND — The Edmond City Council this week voted 4-0 in favor of closing an Edmond Electric utility easement located on the Acts 2 United Methodist Church property, 4848 W. Covell Road.

City Planner Bob Schiermeyer reported a new church building is planned where this original easement is situated. A newer easement has been provided to serve the church, which is building a new sanctuary and adding to its education area and parking.

No other utilities are connected to the older easement that was provided in 2007, said Charles Lamb, mayor.

“The Edmond Public School District has proceeded with an elementary school south of the church and an additional utility easement was provided across the church property to reach Frontier Elementary School,” Schiermeyer noted.

The new easement also serves the new elementary school. So Edmond Electric Utility Director Glenn Fisher recommended the easement to be closed. The City is the applicant because the church provided for both easements as requested by the city, Lamb said.
