EDMOND — Children’s safety demonstrations, bucket truck rides, backhoe bowling and linemen rescue demonstrations were part of Edmond Electric’s popular annual open house Thursday afternoon.

The municipally-owned utility takes pride in supplying outstanding reliability at the lowest rates in the metro area. Profits support city services such as police, fire, streets and parks.

Edmond Electric Director Glenn Fisher said attendance at the free event, hosted by Edmond Electric and Edmond Water Resources at the Cross Timbers Public Service Center, has been growing in recent years. It is presented in conjunction with National Public Power Week Oct. 6-12.

Free giveaways along with T-shirts and refreshments including hamburgers and hot dogs were provided by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority. Booths provided information about city programs and services and UCO athletics.

About 1,000 people attended the 2012 Open House event.
