Special to The Sun
The Orr Family Farm will host Weather Round Up Day on Saturday. The Farm, at 14400 S. Western in Oklahoma City, will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The event features hands-on activities for children to learn about severe weather safety from the National Weather Service including the Oklahoma Mesonet. Visitors can also enter a drawing to win a storm shelter from Storm Safe, meet local storm chasers including Val Castor from KWTV Channel 9 and check out storm chasing vehicles.
“After we experienced the damage and devastation first-hand from the May 20 tornado, we realized how important it was to educate children and adults about severe weather safety,” said Glenn Orr, managing member of the Orr Family Farm. “Visitors can learn about weather safety in a fun environment with plenty of activities for the whole family.”
Prizes will be given away throughout the day including gift cards and 2014 season passes.
The giant corn maze, sponsored by 101.9 The Twister, is shaped like a tornado in conjunction with the weather safety theme. Other fall activities will be available in addition to Weather Round Up events including train rides, the pumpkin patch, hay rides and petting and feeding barnyard animals.
