Citylink services get budget allocations approved

EDMOND — The City of Edmond’s Citylink bus system had $136,116 appropriated for upcoming projects during Monday’s City Council meeting.

The money was lumped into a 5-0 vote by city councilors and moves $110,132 into the 2013 fiscal budget from the 2012 budget and will go to further work in converting Citylink buses to propane fuel and purchase compressed natural gas equipment for the vehicles.

After receiving $250,000 in federal stimulus money to convert a proposed six buses to CNG, Citylink has one natural gas converted vehicle and two newly purchased vehicles that run on the alternative fuel.

In a recent Community Development Block Grant meeting, Shannon Entz, community development manager, said five remaining Citylink buses will be converted to liquid propane gas because it’s comparably priced to natural gas.

The bus system also received $25,984 to fund a budget overage for the Citylink Access Paratransit Service, or CAPS. The program has been in high demand, the proposal reads, and had exceeded its budget.

CAPS is a free service created to enable disabled residents to be picked up by Citylink to be taken to Edmond appointments.
