Volunteers needed for annual Operation Clean Streets

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — Edmond’s annual Operation Clean Streets event, sponsored by Edmond Beautiful and the City of Edmond, is scheduled for April 20. The cleanup effort is in conjunction with the statewide Trash-Off Day, which is sponsored by the Beautification Office of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

This spring clean up event is an opportunity for families, church groups, civic clubs and organizations to make a difference in the appearance of their city. Event sponsors will provide coffee and donuts for volunteers as well as prizes for the most unusual trash picked up during the event.

Volunteers meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the city’s new Administration Building, 7 N. Broadway, across from Citizens Bank. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will end at noon.

The City of Edmond Solid Waste department will be collecting tires from residential Edmond customers in the parking lot of the Administration Building. Conditions for tire collection include no tires with rims, no tires from dealerships, salvage yards, service stations, forklifts, off-road vehicles, heavy machinery, agricultural vehicles, tractors or backhoes, etc.

This year, there also will be an e-waste collection in the parking lot. E-waste consists of TVs, VCRs, computers, gaming systems, etc. The e-waste collection will be offered by CDR Global Inc.
