EDMOND —
A Logan County deputy has been fired after investigators determined an alleged incident in Guthrie was a hoax, authorities said.
On Monday, the Guthrie Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call in the 300 block of E. Mansur. The caller stated he had been stabbed by an intruder in his residence, Logan County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Richard Stephens said in a previous report.
The caller also stated he fired one shot at the intruder as he was attempting to exit the residence and missed, Stephens said.
Schools in the area were placed on lockdown for a short time, according to information released Monday. The deputy was treated and released at a local hospital. Authorities also released a description of the alleged intruder.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the Guthrie Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office announced that investigators determined there was no intruder and the assault was fabricated. The Guthrie Police Department will submit a report to the Logan County District Attorney’s Office for their review.
“The Logan County Sheriff’s Office has terminated the employment of this deputy,” the agencies stated. “This is an unfortunate incident, but must be dealt with firmly.”
Information on the identity of the deputy was not available at press time.

3 miles of Broadway restoration nears completion
Work to restore 3 miles of Broadway from Waterloo to Simpson was near completion Friday, said Mark Sharpton, District 1 county commissioner. Atlas Paving Company began the process of resurfacing the road this week.
“Another improvement on the roadway will be the application of new safety striping,” Sharpton said.
A recent bid letting by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation resulted in Action Supply being the lowest bidder at $27,752.30. The bid will be awarded June 3, Sharpton said. - More Local News Headlines
