Work progresses smoothly for the Kelly widening project, City Manager Larry Stevens said before the City Council this week. Road work began in July about 1,000 feet north of Covell and continues north to a point 350 feet south of Coffee Creek.
Duit Construction/TTK Construction is in charge of constructing a four-lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at all public streets along the project on Kelly going from Covell to Coffee Creek.
“They should complete the bridge portion in the near future,” Stevens said. “In fact in the next week or so, they should be installing the asphault base with weather permitting.”
Once this is accomplished, traffic on Kelly should reopen with one lane of traffic in each direction until the project is completed, Stevens said.
“The complete project should be done sometime in early May,” Stephens said.
The city’s 20-percent share of the project will be $1.2 million taken from the 2000 Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
