Golf lovers invited to play in Aces 4 Asher
EDMOND — Diagnosed with cancer a little more than a year ago has slowed little Asher Edelen down, but it has not stopped his indomitable spirit.
In 2008, the then 16-month-old Asher was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer.
“Asher continues to battle this disease with a valiant effort and has endured numerous rounds of medication and chemotherapy,” said his mother Kayla Edelen.
Recently the family was notified that Asher has reached the maintenance phase, which is a 2 1/2- to three-year treatment plan.
“He is so sweet-hearted, kind and loving,” said his grandmother, Sharon Edelen. “He is just precious.”
His mother said he loves balls of any type and has met the University of Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops.
The family created a foundation to benefit Asher and his family during their difficult time, as well as other Oklahoma families whose children are diagnosed with cancer.
“Aces 4 Asher” is an annual charitable golf tournament established to raise funds for this foundation. Donations are welcome either by participation in the event or by individual hole sponsorships.
“We have been staying really busy with preparation for the second annual Aces 4 Asher golf tournament to benefit Asher’s ongoing treatment, as well as Oklahoma families affected by childhood cancer,” Kayla said.
The golf tournament is scheduled to be Aug. 15 at Rose Creek Golf Course in Edmond.
To benefit childhood cancer, golf tournament Gold Sponsor options begin with $1,000. The money will be given in the form of a tax deductible donation. Other options include a Silver Sponsor, a $500 donation and a Bronze Sponsor, $100 to $250 donation. Prizes also may be donated.
Registration is $100 a person for a two-man team. The cost includes a lunch catered by Charleston’s, goodie bags and prizes. Additional prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place finishers in all flights.
To donate for a sponsorship choice or to reserve a team spot, call Kayla at 513-2511 or e-mail tyedelen@hotmail.com with the company name and logo by Aug. 12.
Donations are welcome either by participation in the event or by individual hole sponsorships. Receipts (including tax ID information) will be mailed. Checks should be made payable to The Asher Edelen Fund and mailed to: 3813 Anadarko, Edmond, OK 73013.
Asher’s journey on his road to recovery may be followed at www.caringbridge.org/visit/ashercole.
