Seats up for grabs in the Feb. 11 election include the Edmond School Board District No. 4 seat, Deer Creek School Board Office 4 seat, Guthrie Seat No. 3 and Seat No. 4 and Oakdale Public School District No. 1 seat. If needed, a run-off election will be April 1.

Stephanie Bills filed Monday for the Edmond No. 4 seat. Incumbent Danny Barnes filed for the Deer Creek Office 4 Seat.

Incumbent S. Janna Pierson filed for Guthrie Seat No. 3 and there was no one filing for Seat No. 4 on Monday. Guthrie School Board Seat No. 4 is currently filled by Orville Cornelius.

J. David Walsh filed for the Oakdale Seat No. 1, which is currently held by Kelli Mitchell.

The Edmond District No. 4 seat is currently occupied by school board member Stephanie Bills. Bills, Metro-Tech’s chief officer of human resources, was appointed to fill the seat after longtime board member George Cohlmia resigned earlier this year. This will be her first election.

To be eligible for Edmond’s District 4 seat, a candidate must live in the district, be a registered voter in the district, have a high school diploma or equivalency and not be employed by the district or have immediate family members employed by the district. The same criteria apply for the Deer Creek seat.

Edmond’s District 4 begins at the intersection of 15th Street and Boulevard and extends south to 33rd, west to Kelly Avenue, south to Memorial Road, east to Eastern Avenue/Boulevard Street, south to one-half mile south of Memorial Road, west to a point one-half mile west of Meridian Avenue, north one mile to a point located one-half mile north of Memorial Road, east one mile to a point located one-half mile east of Meridian Avenue, north to 15th and east on 15th Street to Eastern Avenue/Boulevard.

The Deer Creek Office 4 seat is bounded by Waterloo Road, South May Avenue, Northwest 220th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, halfway between Covell Road and Coffee Creek Road and along parts of Santa Fe avenue, according to a district map.

School board members serve five-year terms with one member’s term expiring each year. The Edmond Board of Education typically meets the first Monday of every month. The Deer Creek Board members usually meet the second Monday of the month.

Members of both boards manage construction projects, education-related purchases, district policies and oversee district personnel among other responsibilities.
