Special to The Sun
OKLA. CITY —
Construction is scheduled to begin this month for a permanent facility for the Crossings Community Center and Clinic. The Groundbreaking & Dedication Ceremony will be from 2-2:30 p.m. Sunday at 10255 N. Penn and will include representatives from the Community Center & Clinic, as well as Crossings Community Church, Butterfield Foundation, Delta Dental and other supporters.
A generous grant from The Butterfield Foundation in recognition of the care provided by the clinic opened the doors to the construction of a new building for the Crossings Community Center and Clinic. It also launched the ONE Capital Campaign at Crossings Community Church to raise the additional funds needed for the project.
A ministry of Crossings Community Church, the Community Center and Clinic are part of the church’s mission to make a difference in the local community. The clinic provides medical care to the uninsured or underinsured in the community and has had more than 27,000 patient visits since first opening in 2005. With more than 425 active volunteers, 98 percent of the clinic workers are volunteers. The Community Center addresses needs beyond medical care. Since its beginning in 2007, more than 40,000 people have been impacted by the Community Center programs, which include an after-school ministry to John Marshall Middle & High School students, educational workshops and seminars, a legal clinic and more.
Crossings Community Center and Clinic are expected to move from its currently leased building to the new location at 10255 N. Penn, just south of The Village Library, in early 2015.
The new 36,000 square-foot-facility will allow the clinic to nearly double the number of patients seen on a yearly basis and will include eight medical exam rooms, six dental chairs and a vision exam room. The building also will include classrooms, 350-seat auditorium, teaching kitchen and gym for the Community Center.
