EDMOND — Members of the Edmond Fire Department’s hazmat team were in Guthrie mid-day Friday responding to a suspicious substance call.Members of the Edmond Fire Department’s hazmat team were in Guthrie mid-day Friday responding to a suspicious substance call.

Shortly before noon, the Fire Department received a call seeking assistance with investigating the discovery of an unknown substance in the vicinity of Willow Creek Road and Pine in Guthrie, Edmond Fire Chief Jake Rhoades said.

At the scene, a somewhat rural area near Interstate 35, Edmond personnel suited up and were transported by a Guthrie Fire Department command vehicle further into the neighborhood.

It wasn’t long before they returned to the Edmond hazmat truck, holding two small plastic bags. The bags were handed to a member of the team who appeared to be field testing the substance.

The Sun was seeking information on what the substance turned out to be.
