Man dies while noodling near Arcadia

EDMOND — An unidentified Hispanic man in his mid-30s was found dead by friends Saturday afternoon while the men were noodling — fishing for hand for catfish — in a creek near Arcadia.

Randy Payne, spokesman for the Edmond Police Department, said the call came in at 3:13 p.m. after the man was found lying face down in the creek.

“The other friends and relatives had wandered away from the area, and when they returned, they found him in the water,” Payne said. “One friend attempted to resuscitate him by using CPR while others ran to the road to flag down help.”

The man was unconscious when medical personnel arrived. He was transferred to Edmond Medical Center, but police said he was pronounced dead.

“The accident is still under investigation, but there do not appear to be any unnatural causes,” Payne said.

The accident occurred just north of the intersection of Westminster Road and Oklahoma Highway 66. Crime scene investigators from EPD were at the scene, as is customary in an unattended death.

The man’s name had not been released late Saturday afternoon.
