There’s a new ZIP in town

EDMOND — About 10,000 residential and business customers in north and northwest Edmond will come under two new ZIP codes effective July 1.

Edmond Postmaster Larry Chandler said the changes will affect the mailing addressees of some customers currently served by the Coffee Creek Station in the 73003 ZIP code area.

“Because of community growth, it is necessary to introduce two new ZIP codes — 73012 and 73025 — to the Coffee Creek delivery area,” Chandler said.

He said there are about 10,000 customers using the current 73003 ZIP code whose mail service and mailing addresses will change.

“We are advising customers by letter of their new mailing address and cautioning them not to begin using the new ZIP codes until after the July 1 effective date,” Chandler said.

To minimize the impact on customers who have stationery and other office supplies bearing the 73003 ZIP code, during a 12-month transition period both old and new addresses will be retained in the postal database.

“This will allow our automated mail processing equipment to recognize both addresses and properly sort mail to the correct center,” Chandler said.

The new ZIP codes are not only necessary to keep pace with Edmond’s growth, but also will position the Edmond Post Office to adapt to future growth, Chandler said.

Customers who have questions may contact the station manager at the Coffee Creek Station at 844-0583 or the Edmond Postmaster at 341-8608.
