EDMOND — Former Guthrie resident Faye Quinn, soldier and expectant mother, lost her husband, Sgt. Adam D. Quinn, 22, Saturday from wounds sustained when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated on impact with his vehicle.
According to the Department of Defense, Quinn, of Orange City, Fla., was serving in the U.S. Army supporting Operation Enduring Freedom at Forward Operating Base Phoenix, near Bagram, Afghanistan.
He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, N.C., as a paratrooper who was an automation specialist.
According to www.icasualties.org, Quinn’s death represents the 191st coalition death in Afghanistan this year — equaling last year’s record total number. The Web site tracks coalition casualties for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
In a press release issued by the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st Sgt. Christopher McKnight said, “(Sgt.) Quinn was admired by his peers and superiors and will be greatly missed. He always gave 100 percent to everything he did. The loss of this paratrooper will be felt across the company.”
His wife, Faye, a 2003 graduate of Edmond North High School, had been married to Quinn for less than two years and their child is due in March. She is a member of the Oklahoma National Guard.
In addition to his wife, Adam is survived by his parents, Charles and Sherri Quinn and brother, Asa Quinn.
There will be a memorial ceremony for Quinn in Afghanistan.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of DeLand, Fla.
