Inmate arrested same night as release
EDMOND — A man just released from prison Wednesday for driving offenses in Edmond was arrested again for similar violations later that night.
Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew Heil of Oklahoma City had been released from the Lawton Community Correctional Center after serving just more than eight months of a two-year sentence for driving under the influence, aggravated eluding a police officer and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charges in Edmond.
At the same time, Heil was serving a two-year sentence for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and operation of a chop shop charges out of Oklahoma City.
Officer Kendall Miller reports he was traveling northbound in the 100 block of Broadway about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle driven by Heil nearly rear-ended his patrol car.
According to Miller’s report, Heil drove away as the officer approached the car during a traffic stop. Miller said he pursued Heil who was traveling at speeds up to 90 mph at times eastbound on Danforth.
Miller said Heil came close to running into several other vehicles during the chase. Heil lost control of his car and ran off the road at Danforth and Coltrane.
Because of his injuries he was taken to and treated at the Edmond Medical Center.
Heil was arrested on complaints of felony DUI, attempting to elude a police officer and driving under suspension.
Heil has had many run-ins with the law during the years and has a conviction of DUI and driving under suspension dating back to 2004 in Oklahoma County.
