UCO/OKC Downtown College Consortium offering assisted living, elderly care certification

EDMOND — The University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Downtown College Consortium will offer a series of courses on residential care and assisted living, which are required by the state for owners and administrators in the elderly care profession, March 3-7.

The Spring 2008 Residential Care Facilities Administrators program meets the state’s residential care administrators certificate requirements and is one of only three approved programs in the state.

This week of classes will provide participants 35 to 50 hours required by the state for certification, which is mandatory by the State Health Department for owners and administrators of residential care or assisted living facilities.

Classes will address issues such as mental health, nutrition, life enrichment and communicating with residents, as well as rules, regulations and staff development, among others.

The classes range in cost from $15 to $75, and are one to five hours in length.

Classes will be held on the fourth floor of the Downtown Library, 300 Park Ave.
