Edmond Electric receives $20,000 award

EDMOND — Edmond Electric was awarded $20,000 from the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority’s Competitive Utility Program at Monday’s Edmond City Council meeting.

Edmond Electric’s status as a competitive utility earned it the recognition, said Cindy Holman, general manager for OMPA, a state agency providing wholesale electricity to cities and towns.

“The purpose of CUP is to encourage cities to treat their utilities as a business, which is always a good idea,” Holman said.

CUP was initiated by City Councilman Charles Lamb, chairman of the OMPA board. Mayor Dan O’Neil pointed out that Edmond Electric was the first entity to receive the certification. Edmond Electric received the maximum number of points to earn the award this year.

Edmond Electric’s recognition reflects its competitive electricity rates, Edmond Electric Director Charlie Burgett said on Tuesday.

“It is recognition of our employee training programs for customer service and of our operations reliability and we are very pleased to receive this recognition and award.”
