EDMOND — The Edmond Animal Shelter is running a summer special on adult cats. Through July 18, the price for adult cats at the shelter is only $35, including vaccinations and spaying or neutering. The regular price is $70.
“This is a great time to visit the shelter and choose the best adult cat for your family,” said Jim Fish, Edmond Animal Welfare supervisor. “We’re well stocked.”
Most of the adoptable adult cats are recent arrivals. Photos and descriptions of the cats are available by clicking on “adopt a pet” at www.edmondok.com.
Wendy, an attention-seeking, white cat, is a new favorite of employees and volunteers. Momma is another favorite. “She deserves someone who will dote on her,” said Shelter Specialist Kristen Wilson. Now spayed, she said, “Momma was a great mother for her own kittens and two foster litters.”
Fish requests that those interested in adopting an adult cat meet the three females that have been living at the shelter the longest — about five months. “These cats will win you over,” Fish said, “when you take time to get to know them in our get-acquainted rooms. Sometimes a great pet gets passed over for no apparent reason.”
Ramona, Veronica and Nermal are all friendly, attractive and eager to move out of a cage and into a good home.
“Adult cats exude thankfulness when they get adopted,” Fish said. “While an impetuous kitten is easily distracted by playing with a feather, an adult cat appears grateful to have a home of its own.
Fish said the shelter has 20 cats waiting to be adopted. Typically, the shelter finds homes for six or seven cats.
Adult cats may have a more difficult time finding a home now because they have to compete with an abundance of cute kittens.
IF YOU HAVE ROOM in your family and home for an adult cat or a kitten, visit the animal shelter at 2424 Old Timbers Drive, on the southeast corner of Interstate 35 and Covell Road, or call Edmond Animal Welfare, 216-7615. The shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Unwritten contracts hard to prove

A: Although it is generally advisable to put every agreement in writing, most agreements can be enforced without written evidence of the deal. Both oral and written contracts can, in the right circumstances, bind the parties to perform. - More Local News Headlines
