Luther boy dies from gunshot wounds

EDMOND — The 12-year-old Luther-area boy who was wounded earlier this week in an apparent accidental shooting has died, according to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

In a news release issued late Wednesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as John White, who was pronounced dead just before 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the shooting.

Monday evening, deputies received a call and responded to 19815 E. Memorial Road near Luther, where they found the victim, who had been shot in the head. A 14-year-old boy who was in the house was interviewed and it is believed he was playing with a .22-caliber revolver handgun when it discharged, said Mark Myers, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Investigators believe the two boys are friends. The 14-year-old boy lives at the house and the victim was spending the night. Investigators have determined that there were not any adults in the house at the time of the shooting.
