Fair to feature 2 Miss Edmond LibertyFests

The Edmond 4-H club will welcome children of all ages in their second annual “Safety Fair” Saturday, and will feature 2007 Miss America Lauren Nelson as a special speaker.

The fair, which will get under way at noon and continue until 4 p.m., will take place at the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Center in Oklahoma City and is free and open to the public.

In addition to Nelson, who will speak on Internet safety, Emoly West, Miss Edmond Liberty Fest 2007, and Talia Berning, Miss Edmond Liberty Fest 2008, also will be on hand to help teach participants.

Bike Safety, fire safety, gun safety and a special appearance by the Oklahoma City Police Department are just a few of the activities planned. Make and take booths also will highlight the event, where children can make one-of-a-kind craft items to take home and enjoy.

“We want everyone to bring their kids out to learn more about safety,” said April Adams, 4-H youth educator for Oklahoma County. “The Edmond 4-H club will have quite a number of hands-on activities that will help teach kids about safety.”

Health professionals and the Oklahoma City Fire Department also will be on hand to help teach safety to participants.

“We’re excited to feature Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson at this event,” Kyle Worthington, also a 4-H Youth Educator for the Oklahoma County 4-H program, stressed. “She has always been concerned with child safety and her presentation should make a lasting impression on the participants.”

All of the activities are open to the public and free of charge.

Most of the activities will be held outside the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service, at 930 N. Portland, within a tented area.
