City agency offers workshop for businesses

The City of Edmond’s Emergency Management is offering a free workshop on Sept. 23 for business leaders and managers to learn about emergency preparedness. This three hour session will cover how businesses can plan for, respond to and recover from a significant disaster.

The “We’re Still Open for Business!” workshop is offered as part of the National Preparedness Month, to help business owners, managers and leaders be more prepared for disasters. The workshop is geared toward small- to mid-sized service and product businesses.

“Our focus will be for businesses to learn what to do if a disaster strikes and to help them understand how to serve our citizens and community in an efficient and effective manner, especially in times of disasters,” said Mike Magee, Emergency Management coordinator.

The workshop will include information about conducting a hazard analysis and risk assessment, protecting critical resources, and critical business functions.

Participants will learn about back-up and recovery of vital records and data. Business continuity plans and forms also will be discussed.

The workshop will be from 2-5 p.m. in Room 107 Downtown Community Center, 28 E. Main St.

There is no cost for the workshop however space is limited to 30 participants and registration is required. To enroll, call Mike Magee at 359-4378.
