There’s more to setting up an aquarium than filling it with water and sprinkling in some spirulina flakes.
If you’re new to the hobby of aquarium fish, come to the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard, on Saturday for a free event called “Setting Up Your First Aquarium.” Representatives from the Oklahoma Aquarium Association and Aquariums of Edmond will be on hand from 1-2 p.m. to answer questions and offer advice.
“Creating a great new environment for your fish is easy,” said Edmond Library manager Karen Bays, “but it isn’t as easy as some people think it is. There are a lot of ways to go wrong so just about every novice needs a little help to get started.”
In addition to instruction and the general question and answer session, there also will be a drawing contest for children, live aquariums on display, books, photos and information. A raffle will be offered and the winner will receive a 14-gallon Biocube Aquarium.
“Setting Up Your First Aquarium” is designed for ages 6 and older.

City plans to hire downtown consultant
Conceptual ideas about how the City of Edmond may plan for downtown development were shared this week by David Forrest with members of the business community.
The Central Edmond Urban Development Board has revisited plans made in a 1998 Downtown Master Plan through public meetings and presentations to protect the future development of Broadway. Recommendations by the group will be taken into account by future city councils. -

3 miles of Broadway restoration nears completion
Work to restore 3 miles of Broadway from Waterloo to Simpson was near completion Friday, said Mark Sharpton, District 1 county commissioner. Atlas Paving Company began the process of resurfacing the road this week.
“Another improvement on the roadway will be the application of new safety striping,” Sharpton said.
A recent bid letting by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation resulted in Action Supply being the lowest bidder at $27,752.30. The bid will be awarded June 3, Sharpton said. - More Local News Headlines
