EDMOND — Local Republican women have formed a new Republican Women’s group, and set their first meeting tonight at the Interurban Restaurant, 1301 E. Danforth in Edmond. Dutch dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program and meeting from 6-7 p.m.
At this time, Heartland Republican Women plans to have monthly meetings on the third Thursday of every month at the same time and place.
This is a new women’s group and is the first group in the nation this year to be chartered by the National Federation of Republican Women.
Featured speakers at this meeting will be Rep. Marian Cooksey and Rep. Sally Kern who are Oklahoma County Republican women legislators. They will speak on “Women Impacting Politics.”
Heartland’s elected officers are Elayne Dennis, president; Angie LaPlante, first vice president; Lisa Ziriax, second vice president; Marcia Jolly, recording secretary; and Pam Pollard, treasurer.
During the preceding election cycle, many business and professional women expressed their desire to become more involved in the grassroots political process; however, due to working outside the community, family responsibilities and scheduling conflicts with other political groups, they found they were unable to participate.
The group’s mission is to educate voters about the principles of the Republican Party; to encourage participation in grassroots politics; and to help recruit and elect conservative Republican candidates.
Full membership in Heartland Republican Women is open to any registered Republican woman. The group also encourages their husbands to join as associate members. As a tri-level federated organization, Heartland members will be a member of the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women and of the National Federation of Republican Women.
RSVP to Dennis at 642-8183 or at edennis-Heartland@cox.net.
