EDMOND — Police are seeking information leading to the identification of a person of interest in connection with a series of burglaries and credit card fraud cases.
The suspect is believed to be responsible for three Covey Run Lane burglaries, in which more than $10,000 worth of property allegedly was stolen, and more than $2,000 in purchases were made with stolen credit cards at various metro retailers, according to multiple police reports.
Glynda Chu, spokeswoman for the Edmond Police Department, said the suspect used the stolen credit cards in area Wal-Marts, gas stations and convenience stores.
“We’d like to remind people to never leave your garage door opener in your car,” Chu said. “In this case, the suspect broke into the vehicles in the driveway and used the garage door opener to enter the garages.”
On April 17, police were dispatched to the 6000 block of Covey Run Lane in reference to an auto burglary, according to a police report. Someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and stolen a pistol and the remote to the garage door. Nothing was missing from that particular garage, police said.
That same day in the same area police responded to another burglary call, according to a police report. At that second residence, someone stole a wallet containing $150 in cash, sunglasses and the global positioning system.
Police said the victim believes someone used his door opener to enter his garage and take a number of items worth a total of $3,731. The items included a $600 wallet and a $1,000 Craftsman tool box with tap and die sets, drill bit sets and assorted tools.
On April 6, police investigated another burglary in the 5000 block of Covey Run Lane, according to a police report. Police said someone broke into a detached garage and took tools and paint guns worth a total of $7,025.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry. The victim said he was “99 percent” sure the building was locked, and that only one other person, a trusted friend, had a key to the building. The victim then told police someone had used one of his credit cards at a Wal-Mart in Midwest City.
Police said the suspect is believed to be driving a red extended cab GMC or Chevy truck.
IF ANYONE has information about this case, they are asked to call Edmond Crimestoppers at 359-4466 and callers remain anonymous.
