Motorist listed in critical condition

EDMOND — A motorist involved in a Friday morning accident was listed in critical condition at OU Medical Center, police said.

Edmond Police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said that at 8:06 a.m. police received a report of a car accident at Danforth Road and Eagle Drive.

A Ford F 350 dump truck was stopped in the eastbound lane on Danforth, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear to make a left turn into Kickingbird Estates, Chu said. The driver of a 2001 Dodge Intrepid also was driving in the inside eastbound lane on Danforth and failed to notice the truck had stopped, she said

The car driver attempted to stop, but struck the right side of dump truck, went under it for a short distance and veered off to the right side of the roadway, coming to rest on the grass embankment, Chu said.

Chu said the driver of the car was trapped and the Edmond Fire Department had to extricate the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle. She was taken by EMSA to OU Medical Center. She was unconscious at the time of transport and Friday afternoon she was listed in critical condition, Chu said.

The dump truck involved in the crash is owned by Yukon’s Western Lawns, and the driver and passenger were on their way to do yard work when the crash occurred, Chu said.

No injuries were sustained by the truck driver, Jorge DeLuna, 41, of Warr Acres, or his passenger. Police did not identify the passenger or the injured driver of the car.
