Edmond Baha'is celebrate birth of religion's founder

EDMOND — Edmond Baha'is will host a special celebration for their religion's founder, Baha'u'llah at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the eve of his birthday. The celebration will occur at the Edmond Baha'i Center, 321 E. Campbell, just west of the UCO clock tower.

The program will include live music by Michael Ard, a Dallas-area resident, readings and refreshments. The public is invited to attend. No donations will be accepted.

The birth of Baha'u'llah on Nov. 12 commemorates the 1817 birth of Baha'u'llah in Tehran, Persia (now Iran). Baha'u'llah, whose title means the "Glory of God," announced in 1863 that he is God's messenger for this age. His teachings and sacred writings are the basis of the Baha'i faith. Work is suspended on nine Baha'i holy days during the year, including Nov. 12.

In 1862, Baha'u'llah proclaimed that God, our loving creator, sends divine messengers, or manifestations of God, with teachings that enable humanity to know and to worship God. These great manifestations have appeared throughout history every 500-1,000 years, bringing human civilization to even higher levels of spiritual and material advancement. Baha'u'llah is the latest in this long line of divine messengers, which has included Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster and the Bab, another central figure in the Baha'i faith.
