EDMOND — Public invited to OSU-OKC’s
Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
Oklahoma Sate University-Oklahoma City invites the public to attend the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday by the pond, east of the Administration Building.
“The annual ceremony is an event for local families to celebrate the holiday season,” said Jay Kinzer, Student Services vice president. “Once lit, the tree can be seen from I-44 and brings cheer until the New Year.”
To add to the holiday spirit, the Child Development Center children will entertain the crowd with familiar jingles including “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” and “Jingle Bells.”
After the tree lighting, the public is welcome to enjoy free refreshments with Santa Claus in the Student Center, second floor.

Edmond Kiwanis focuses on MAPS 3 Wednesday
The Edmond Kiwanis club will resume its weekly meeting this Wednesday. Xavier Niera of the Manhattan Construction Company and a member of the Yes for Maps Coalition, will speak about the sales tax extension on the Oklahoma City ballot for Dec. 8.
This is an informational presentation and not a debate. Many members of the Kiwanis Club live in the Greater Edmond area but vote in Oklahoma City elections. All Edmond residents will participate in paying for MAPS when they shop in Oklahoma City if this sales tax extension passes. For more information, see www.yesformaps.com.

Oklahoma attorney general to speak
at Edmond Rotary Club
Drew Edmondson will be the featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Edmond on Wednesday. The service organization meets at noon every Wednesday at their new location, Henderson Hills Baptist Church, at 15th Street and the east I-35 Service Road.
Edmondson was elected attorney general in 1994, and was re-elected in 1998, 2002 and 2006, winning more than 60 percent of the vote in his last two elections. He served as the 2002-03 president of the National Association of Attorneys General.
He is a 2010 gubernatorial candidate against Lt. Gov. Jari Askins on the Democratic ticket while U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin and state Sen. Randy Brogdon are seeking the Republican nomination for that office.

Boathouse Foundation plans MAPS event
Mike Knopp, executive director of the OKC Boathouse Foundation, and Roy Williams, president of the Greater OKC Chamber of Commerce, will present information about MAPS 3 from 5-7:30 p.m. today at the Chesapeake Boathouse, 725 S. Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City. The presentation will include information about proposed MAPS projects, especially those planned for the Oklahoma River. Oklahoma City residents will vote on the sales tax extension on Dec. 8.
YWCA luncheon raises funds for battered women, children
At noon Monday, the YWCA Oklahoma City will have its third annual Women Who Care Share luncheon in the Skirvin Hilton’s Grand Ballroom. The luncheon celebrates the compassion and generosity of Oklahoma women, especially around the holiday season, while benefiting the YWCA’s shelter for victims of domestic violence.
“We are so grateful to the women in our community each year,” said Janet L. Perry, CEO of the YWCA Oklahoma City. “They have shown that for the price of just one holiday present, you can help provide shelter and safety for women and children in their darkest hour.”
Lt. Gov. Jari Askins will start the afternoon by welcoming all guests. Guests also will enjoy lunch, learn about YWCA services and the effects of domestic violence, and hear a personal story from a survivor. MacDowell Club meets Wednesday
The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the New Covenant Christian Church at 12000 N. Rockwell in Oklahoma City. The devotional will be given by Jeanneé Adams. The program will be “Arise, Shine” presented by the Southern Nazarene University Chorale with Brent Ballweg, director, and Tim Marek, accompanist.
The MacDowell Club of Allied Arts of OKC was established in 1920. The purpose of the club is to encourage and inspire creative work in the allied arts.
