EDMOND — Children’s Miracle Network director to speak at Edmond Kiwanis meeting

Jan Dunham, director of the Children’s Miracle Network in Oklahoma, will be the guest speaker at the Edmond Kiwanis luncheon meeting Wednesday at the University of Central Oklahoma Nigh Center. Dunham will give an update on the recent fundraising activities and will recognize several Edmond corporate partners whose efforts along with Kiwanis International have made a significant contribution to the Children’s Hospital at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Currently the CMN in Oklahoma is conducting a 2010 calendar sale and encouraging members and the public to send CMN christmas cards to children who will be hospitalized during the holidays.

Kiwanis Clubs in Oklahoma have a special commitment to child health care and the club is listed as one of the top five organizational supporters of the Children’s Miracle Network and the Children’s Medical Research Institute at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Since 1992, Oklahoma Kiwanis Clubs have raised more than $500,000 for research and education programs to improve the health care of Oklahoma children.

Residents are welcome to attend the Edmond Kiwanis meeting, which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Room just left of the main cafeteria in the UCO Nigh University Center. For more information, call club secretary Don Sterne at 216-8436.

OSU-OKC poinsettia sale sells out

The OSU-Oklahoma City annual poinsettia sale had a record number of shoppers turn out on opening day, purchasing almost all of the 1,700 poinsettias for sale, making this year’s sale the most successful in the event’s history. Much to the disappointment to holiday shoppers, the poinsettias completely sold out on the second day.

“We are ecstatic about the record numbers we had at the poinsettia sale. To sell all 1,700 poinsettias in the first two days is quite an accomplishment,” said Cheryl Camp, OSU-OKC Farmers Market manger. “The success of this year’s poinsettia sale is due to all of the wonderful work by Barry Fox and the entire OSU-OKC Greenhouse and Gardens staff.”

Interested shoppers can still enjoy the weekly Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday at the Horticulture Pavilion, 400 N. Portland Ave. Available products will include greenhouse tomatoes, cold-weather vegetables, lamb, beef, chicken, cheese, pecans, peanuts and many other 100 percent Oklahoma-grown produce.
