EDMOND — FBI investigators are seeking the identity of a man who walked into an Edmond grocery store and demanded money from a bank teller.
Edmond Police were assisting the FBI at the Bank of Oklahoma outlet inside the Homeland near the North Bryant Avenue-Danforth Road intersection. Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, customers were allowed to re-enter the building.
FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said that at about 3:30 p.m. a lone man holding a small object over his face to conceal his identity entered the store, approached a teller, said he had a gun and demanded money. Johnson said the suspect put the money in a white plastic grocery sack and left the bank on foot.
The robber was inside the store for about 25 minutes before the robbery and was last seen walking northbound on the sidewalk from the store entrance, Johnson said.
He was described as a white male 50 to 65 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 220 pounds, having gray hair. He was wearing dark pants, a brown cloth cowboy style hat, a tan jacket and sun glasses.
Johnson said information was not available yet about the getaway vehicle. The building was temporarily evacuated so police could ensure that the robber was not still inside, he said. No one was injured during the robbery.
A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered by the Oklahoma Banker's Association. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Oklahoma City FBI office at 290-7770, a 24-hour number. Callers may remain anonymous.
