Agency releases results of Operation STanDOFF

OKLA. CITY — Operation STanDOFF, a cooperative effort led by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, is officially in the books.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Mark Myers said the large traffic enforcement event was conducted by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Bethany Police Department, Midwest City Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. The event started at 5 p.m. June 30 and ended at 3 a.m. July 1.

“This was a great successful traffic enforcement event,” Myers said. “We believe lives were saved through Operation STanDOFF.”

Myers said there were six sobriety checkpoints. Law enforcement officers performed saturation patrols throughout Oklahoma County searching for people driving under the influence of alcohol, he said

Myers said there were a total of 49 people arrested on multiple charges including 34 people arrested on alcohol related offenses.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, personnel logged 34 DUI arrests, 36 driving under suspension/Revoked license/No driver’s license arrests, six warrants-related arrests, five possession of marijuana arrests and three possession of controlled dangerous substance arrests.

Personnel made 552 contacts regarding tickets or warnings. Of those, 129 were related to seat belts, 90 to failure to carry insurance, 72 to driving under suspension/revoked license/no driver’s license, 28 to speeding, 17 to improper lane use, 11 to child restraints, nine to left of center, nine to disobeying stop signs, eight to disobeying traffic signals, five to an expired tag and four to unsafe lane changes.

A total of 74 vehicles were impounded.
