Home tour benefits HOPEfully Yours

EDMOND — Two local business owners put their heads together earlier this month to create an awareness campaign for HOPEfully Yours Resale Shop.

All profits from the resale store at 100 N. Broadway benefit the HOPE Center of Edmond, a nonprofit community agency that helps Edmond and Arcadia residents with several types of assistance when they find themselves fallen onto hard times.

Through this Sunday, Turner and Son Homes is showcasing items from the resale shop in a staged home at 2308 N.W. 173rd St. in the Silver Hawk addition near the southwest corner of Northwest 178th and Pennsylvania. The home, titled “A House full of HOPE,” is open for public tours from 1-6 p.m. each day this week through Sunday.

Justin Howard, president of Turner and Son Homes, said the newly constructed home is for sale and if someone places a contract on it this week, his company will make a $1,000 donation to the HOPE Center.

The home tour idea was the brainstorm of Susie Kalivoda, owner of Different by Design, a home-staging business based in Edmond.

Kalivoda retired a year and a half ago from a staff position at the state Legislature and was looking for something more to do when she offered to volunteer at the HOPE Center. The agency immediately placed her running the cash register on Wednesday mornings at HOPEfully Yours.

She mostly stages homes for sale for both local Realtors and home builders and woke up on a recent Wednesday morning with the idea to stage a home solely with items available for purchase from the resale shop. By that night, Kalivoda had approached Howard with the idea and he immediately agreed, she said.

Kalivoda said she stages vignettes mostly, so the home in Silver Hawk is showcasing items in each room such as dishes, art work, wine glasses and more. She also placed clothes and shoes in the closets to give tour-goers an idea of the name-brand and designer clothing that makes its way to HOPEfully Yours for sale at a fraction of their original price.

“It looks like someone’s living there without furniture in it,” Kalivoda said.

She described the 2,500-square-foot home as reminiscent of a Dallas-style of home with three bedrooms and a large, upstairs bonus room.

Those visiting the home have been able to register for a drawing for a $25 gift card to the resale shop.

Those who tour two other Turner and Son Homes that are on the Parade of Homes tour this month will have an opportunity to register for a $15,000 gift certificate good toward the purchase of a Turner and Son home or good toward that amount of additions to a home purchased from the builder. The two homes by the local builder on the Parade of Homes tour are at 2400 N.W. 177th in the Silver Hawk addition and 1417 Switchgrass in the Hidden Prairie addition at 33rd and Kelly in Edmond. Howard said he will pull a winner from the drawing on Monday.

Kalivoda said this year’s tour has been so successful, she hopes to do it again next year.

“I have been told that most of the remarks are ‘I can’t believe this came from a resale shop’ and ‘We didn’t know it was there,’” she said. “That was the purpose,  to get the word out about HOPEfully Yours.”
