A man faces new charges in a federal Logan County case involving allegations he traveled to Mexico where he engaged in illicit sexual conduct with a child, court records show.
David Henry, the attorney representing Mark Edward Hamme, 44, said his client is maintaining his innocence and will enter a plea of not guilty when he appears in court, a hearing that had not yet been scheduled. Henry said he anticipates the trial will begin sometime in April.
On Feb. 12, Hamme was booked into the Logan County jail, according to court records. Henry said he does not anticipate bond being set in the case.
On Wednesday, the Western District of Oklahoma released indictments returned by a federal grand jury sitting in Oklahoma City. They include the nine-count superseding indictment regarding Hamme. A superseding indictment is filed subsequent to an original indictment. Henry said he was not certain of the added charges in this case.
In the U.S. federal judicial system an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
In Count 1, the grand jurors allege the defendant failed to register and/or update the sex offender registry.
In Counts 2-4 the grand jurors allege the defendant conspired and/or sexually exploited children.
Counts 5-7 involve allegations related to child pornography.
In Count 8, the grand jurors allege the defendant engaged in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places.
Count 9 involves penalties for registered sex offenders.
If convicted, the defendant faces a potential lengthy prison sentence, fines or both.
Hamme is also known by the aliases “alemanamable,” “Ed Goebels,” “el tio gringo,” “jungslieber35,” “Marcos Eduardo,” “al goebels,” “Hyperfig,” “Matthew Figlover” and “Resoltera69,” according to the indictment.
Grand jurors allege that during various times in different years the defendant, who has a July 2003 conviction for lewd molestation and forcible sodomy in Oklahoma, participated in the illegal activity.
Illicit visual depiction was produced in Mexico and transported to Oklahoma City, grand jurors allege. The superseding indictment alleges the defendant traveled to Mexico where he engaged in sexual activity with a child.
