AutismOklahoma kicks off yearly benefit

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — The sweet smell of success is in the air for Kickoff Luncheon Chairwoman Amy Archibald as she gathers desserts and auction items for AutismOklahoma’s yearly benefit for the Piece Walk & 5K.

The luncheon, a precursor to Autism Awareness Month, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7 at the Will Rogers Theater featuring both silent and dessert auctions.

“We’re one step closer. That’s what I think as I work on this event each year,” Archibald said. “My family and I are one step closer to finding more answers and more tools for kids and adults on the journey of autism. The generosity of our patrons is truly humbling. It’s personal for me and for every person donating their time and talents to this event.”

Archibald is the matriarch behind the Piece Walk team Let’s Play Chase in honor of her son Chase, diagnosed with autism six years ago. It’s been a big year for the Archibald family as Chase transitioned from home school to mainstream public schooling.

“Boundaries are meant to be crossed,” Archibald said, “and limits meant to be tested. This is what AutismOklahoma does on a daily basis. They take these rules and give them wings. With each program I have been part of in the my two years since joining the Piece Walk Board, I am inspired by what these philanthropic warriors do on a daily basis, all year-round. To be a part ... it gives me chills.”

The silent auction will include an array of individual and packaged items including a custom framed Jason Blackmon autographed print. Desserts from all across the metro area have been donated from local bakeries such as Green Goodies, Sweets & Spurs and McClaren’s Pantry.

All proceeds earned from the Kickoff Luncheon benefit AutismOklahoma programs. To learn more, visit www.AutismOklahoma.org or www.piecewalk.org on the events tab.

The luncheon is free to 300 people (the number the location will seat) and raffle tickets are on sale, $20 for 10 tickets, no limit to the number that can be purchased.
