Police seek cigarette thief

EDMOND — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect wanted in the theft of $16,250 worth of cigarettes and $300 in cash from an Edmond gas station.

On Aug. 12 police responded to the EZ Stop & Go, 1429 S. Santa Fe Ave., in regard to a burglary, according to a report filed by Edmond Police Officer Josh Smith.

Police said someone broke in and stole money and cigarettes. Some 325 cartons of cigarettes worth a total of $16,250, and a box containing tobacco products worth $1,800 were missing. Also, $300 in cash was taken from the ATM, which suffered $75 worth of damage. A business door suffered $50 worth of damage.

Police said the back door had been pried open. The store’s alarm had been set before closing on Aug. 11, but it did not activate as it should have. All the cables had been cut, causing the camera and alarm to fail, police said.
