EDMOND —
The University of Central Oklahoma Foundation recently received a pledge of $500,000 from alumna Martha Burger, senior vice president — Human & Corporate Resources with Chesapeake Energy Corporation, toward the development and construction of the CHK|Central Boathouse on the Oklahoma River.
“I’m thrilled that my alma mater is establishing a presence on the Oklahoma River, not only with the women’s rowing team, but also through the live music venue and art gallery, as well,” Burger said.
“I’m excited to help introduce the arts to the Boathouse District and solidify the Oklahoma River as a destination for the entire community.”
Burger has been a UCO Foundation Trustee since 2005 and is active in civic and professional organizations as well as statewide initiatives.
UCO President Roger Webb commended Burger for her outstanding commitment to the community and the university.
“Creative projects like the CHK|Central Boathouse would not be possible without generous supporters like Martha,” Webb said. “Her gift will have a positive impact on our students, many who go on to work right here in Oklahoma at places like Chesapeake Energy. Her gift, coupled with the pledge from Chesapeake, further our shared vision to create a place where ‘art meets the river’ in the Boathouse district.”
Chesapeake Energy, which employs more than 300 Central graduates, was the first investor in the CHK|Central Boathouse, pledging $3 million to the project. The university is seeking additional investors and donors to sponsor the remaining $2.5 million needed to complete the project before construction on the boathouse begins.
In addition to the Chesapeake Boathouse, the CHK|Central Boathouse will join the Devon Boathouse and the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower, both currently under construction on the Oklahoma River.

UPDATE: How to donate, find drop-off locations for relief supplies
Below is a listing of where donations may be taken in the Edmond area to help the Moore/Oklahoma tornado victims:
The Edmond Sun is serving as a drop-off location for the downtown Edmond area for the American Red Cross. Supplies only may be dropped off at 123 S. Broadway and residents may use the back door to enter the building. Parking is available behind the building at the Festival Market Place. Donations may be taken to Café Evoke, 103 S. Broadway, from 5-10 p.m. -
ME’s office begins identifying Moore, OKC victims
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office today began releasing names of those who perished in Monday’s 17-mile long EF-5 tornado in Moore and Oklahoma City.
As of this morning the official death toll remains at 24. Of those dead are 10 children. -
Okla. officials vow not to quit looking until everyone is found
The tornado that killed 24 people and injured at least 100 others in the Moore and Oklahoma City area cut a 17-mile-long path that started in Newcastle and ended at Lake Stanley Draper. Nine of the dead are children.
